This study delves into the pivotal role of project managers in shaping the successful completion of projects. It explores whether their contributions represent value addition or replication within an organizational context. Drawing distinctions between project managers and functional managers, the research underscores their unique roles, focusing on temporary initiatives and cross-functional leadership for project managers and ongoing operations within specific business functions for functional managers. The contrasting career paths associated with these roles highlight the diverse experiences gained by project managers, positioning them for senior leadership and the specialized expertise developed by functional managers.
